Everyone has been there: the dreaded afternoon slump. It's 36 degrees outside, but there are still many to-dos in the queue - and concentration is slowly beginning to fade. That's the time when a dedicated group of Scandians gathers around the refrigerator at the Scandio office in Munich... you can hear the icebox rattling and the coffee machine grinding.
The object of desire: the Affogato!
"Affogato al caffè", as they say in its homeland Italy, is a small caffeinated dessert prepared with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a freshly brewed espresso. The perfect pick-me-up for in between, which quickly gives energy again and isn't hard on the stomach!
Affogato is Italian for "drowned" → The drowned scoop of ice cream in espresso ;)
Our preparation advice:
First, put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a small glass, then run the fresh espresso over it straight from the machine and watch the ice cream slowly melt. Mhhh!
For your own creation, however, there are no limits here - whether with whipped cream, chocolate ice cream or decaffeinated, get creative!
