iPaaS and AI: the new trend for integration software?
AI is currently revolutionizing many areas of IT, and iPaaS (Integration Platform as a Service) is no exception. We recently discovered what this means in concrete terms at the Autom8 conference, organized by our partner Frends.
Automation and integration made easy
Frends is known for its iPaaS solution of the same name and has been listed several times in the Gartner Magic Quadrant on iPaaS. With Frends iPaaS, companies can seamlessly develop, manage and secure all APIs, integrations and process automation on an intuitive platform. For that, Frends favors a low-code approach. This allows developers to design applications quickly and with minimal manual effort.
Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) acts as a central platform that connects different, otherwise unconnected systems, providing a unified solution for integrating and sharing data. With the growing use of cloud services, iPaaS is becoming an indispensable part of almost every business model.
So far, so good. Things get really exciting when you take a look at the Frends roadmap, which specifies the use of artificial intelligence in various areas. The aim is to use AI to automate, optimize and make integration processes more intelligent.
We take a closer look at the use of large language models (LLM) in the context of code generation.
LLM code generation for code shapes
One advanced feature that was presented at Autom8 is the ability to create code shapes within the Frends platform. With the help of natural language prompts, users can efficiently create C# code that is required to perform complex integration tasks within their integration processes.
The feature described is based on OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has been trained to understand the context of Frends. This means that if certain blocks of code are required during an integration process – for example, to adjust faulty or unclean data structures before they are processed further – this code can be created very quickly using the integration of AI within the Frends iPaaS solution.
But it gets even better: the LLM not only understands the context of Frends, but also any functionalities and limitations during code generation. This means that problems that can occur during integration between systems, different data structures or post-processing of data sources such as Excel or CSV files, are resolved very quickly in the Frends context.
Key Enhancements of Frends LLM Code Generation
- Contextual Information: System prompts are integrated to provide contextual details for process configuration, including environment variable names, process variables, trigger variables, and access to task results.
- Seamless Integration: When opted in the Process Editor seamlessly connects to our LLM service (Azure Open AI) for effortless use.
- Tenant-Specific Configuration: For security and flexibility, each Frends tenant will utilize its own dedicated instance of the LLM model for context and session security.
The feature described is not an abstract vision of the future, but is nearing completion. Frends roadmap provides a detailed overview of the status of this and other iPaaS developments.
Scandio and Frends
The integration of AI in solutions such as Frends iPaaS enables companies to organize their integration processes faster and more efficiently. The partnership between Scandio and Frends aims to drive these innovations forward and support companies in the successful use of iPaaS.
The project with a major German telecommunications provider illustrates the possibilities of iPaaS: The customer uses Microsoft Active Directory for identity access management and needs to keep a historical record of user rights. Scandio has integrated Microsoft Active Directory with Jira Assets and ensures seamless data synchronization, historical accuracy and process transparency through continuous synchronization – made possible by the Frends iPaaS solution.
