Atlassian Data Residency Update

Since Atlassian announced the end of life for server products in October 2020, server customers have to choose between hosting their infrastructure on Data Center or migrating to the Cloud in the near future. Despite all the benefits of an early Cloud Migration, such as a massive reduction in costs and high availability at all times, many companies are worried about the security of their data in the cloud.

Having control over where one’s own data is stored is a key requirement for companies of all sizes and industries. The topic of data storage is one of the central factors when it comes to evaluating a migration from classic server installations to a cloud-based infrastructure.

For Enterprise customers, data residency is already included in the cloud plan. Data residency gives organizations more control over their data by ensuring their user-generated content is stored within the US or EU.

For Standard and Premium customers, data residency was planned later this year to meet data hosting needs in the cloud, without additional costs.

But we have good news!

Atlassian announced today:

“Today we are excited to let you know we have begun our rollout to officially include data residency across our Standard and Premium cloud plans for Jira Software, Confluence and Jira Service Management.”

That means:

• New cloud licenses created after Jun 30, 2021 will have data residency automatically enabled.
• Existing cloud licenses will have data residency automatically enabled by October 2021.
