Support for Atlassian servers ends February 15, 2024. The journey to cloud is the next step for many companies. An important foundation for this is a cloud assessment: it makes the scope and expense of the migration transparent and clarifies procedure and open questions.

On February 15, 2024, support for Atlassian Server will be discontinued. This fact has been announced for a long time, and yet "suddenly" it is only a few months away.

After the end of support date mid of February, Atlassian and Marketplace Partners will no longer provide technical support for any issues, security updates, or bug fixes for all vulnerabilities. It is an important consideration for organizations using the server platform.

Cloud Migration: Yes or No?

As an Atlassian Solution Partner for 15 years, we have helped many customers assess, configure and plan the most complex migrations with hands-on support and expertise. Based on this experience of our Atlassian consultants, we say: Yes to the cloud, but no migration without a cloud assessment.

By migrating to the cloud, companies will be able to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and scalability options that are only available in the cloud. But the possible cloud migration is only the second step.

The first step should be an analysis of the current state of the existing system. Only then can a realistic forecast be made on the scope and costs of a cloud migration. Think of it as "looking under the hood" at your car. Only based on this a mechanic can say in good conscience what needs to be done to your vehicle.

Concrete answers as a basis for decision-making

The decision as to whether a cloud migration makes sense for a company is usually shaped by questions about migration costs, cloud features and usability/differences between server and cloud.

Our assessment provides those ones responsible with clear answers in the form of a comprehensive final report for further coordination and decision-making with internal stakeholders such as management.

In detail, the final report primarily comprises the following elements:

  • Results report (overview and service costs)
  • Cost indication (regarding Atlassian cloud subscription as well as Scandio services)
  • People involved (for the individual phases in the migration, specific people or contact persons at the customer's are required).
  • Applications (which apps do we (not) recommend to migrate)

The assessment forms the basis of every migration to Atlassian cloud that we perform – but can also be booked as an individual service package without a subsequent migration done by Scandio.

Scandio cloud assessment in detail

The first assessment step involves a deep app usage analysis of the customer's Atlassian systems. Here, a migration path per system and app is worked out and open questions for the procedure are clarified. Together, the customer and the Scandio consultants define KPIs and milestones for the project and the customer names the relevant stakeholders on its side.

In the next step, the results are evaluated and basic decisions regarding the migration are made in close cooperation with the customer: Which apps will be migrated to the cloud; what are potential app alternatives if there is no cloud app; a determination/recommendation of required cloud license sizes is made; etc.

Upon completion of the assessment, an initial service estimate and license quote for the cloud migration is provided. If the customer decides to migrate to the cloud with Scandio, this project will be based on the completed assessment.
